Job Summary

Software Applications Programmer/RPG will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining in-house software applications for IBM's AS/400 / iSeries systems. Some of the key functions include writing and debugging codes, translating business requirements into technical specifications, troubleshooting technical issues, creating documentation, and providing support. This role requires collaboration with in-house cross-functional teams such as Operations and Client Success. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software engineering, programming, and problem-solving, along with customer-facing communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop:
  • Develop well-structured technical solutions to meet business needs and to ensure the smooth operation of Revenue Cycle Management software.
  • The role involves developing and maintaining application programs for Healthcare Revenue Cycle Management and ensuring compliance with healthcare data standards like HIPAA.

Analyze user needs and design, develop, and modify software applications to meet client specifications.

  • Code and test:

Write clean, maintainable code, debug issues, conduct software testing, and participate in code reviews.

  • Troubleshoot and support:

Analyze and resolve technical issues, provide technical support to clients, and create user manuals and training materials.

  • Collaborate:

Work with cross-functional teams to integrate solutions and gather requirements.

  • Document:

Create and maintain technical documentation, including development processes and user guides.

  • Maintain and improve:

Assist with software upgrades, maintenance, and implement improvements based on user feedback.

  • Stay current:

Keep up to date with industry trends, advancements, and new technologies.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an IBM iSeries developer.
  • Expert-level experience in RPGILE and RPG free.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of servers, databases, and networks.
  • Experience with proper debugging techniques of interactive and batch jobs.
  • Experience with DDS, CL, and Spooled files.
  • Experience analyzing project requirements and providing impact analysis.
  • Experience with EDI.
  • Experience with data conversions.
  • Experience with server-to-server FTP automation.
  • Experience with embedded SQL preferred.
  • Ability to write technical documents.
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision.

Soft skills:

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, including strong diagnostic, analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members.
  • Project management skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or technical certification is preferred.
